Founder Bio¶
Juan Montoya, Founder of JMport Design House, built the company out of frustration and belief. After working through the ranks of top multinational agencies, Juan saw firsthand how complicated fee structures, bloated processes and disconnected delivery models often got in the way of what mattered most: quality design that actually works for operators. He envisioned a simpler, more honest approach, one rooted in first principles, clarity and results.
Juan grew up in Medellín, Colombia during the height of the Escobar era. At 12, he moved back to Canada with his mother and very little else. Despite personal and financial challenges, he knew successs was a by-product of delivering value.
At 18, during his second month at design school, Juan became a father. He worked nights, studied by day, and within a year of graduating in Art Direction landed his first design role. He began designing merchandise for global brands like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Nike, before pivoting into design consulting and working with agencies and brands including Molson Coors, Porsche and Adidas.
JMport was born with a simple mission: bring quality back into design and help Canadian brands become the best in the world. What started small grew quickly because it was built on care, discipline and doing the work properly.
Today, Juan sees his journey reflected in entrepreneurs and operators every day. Scaling while protecting the soul of a brand. Making smart decisions under real world constraints. Building something bigger without losing what made it work in the first place.
That’s why JMport designs with operators in mind, helping brands grow with clarity, quality and systems that hold up in the real world.
